Cheer Deductions if anyone cares:
0.75 = stunt fall
1.25 = major stunt fall where the flyer hit the ground
0.25 = a stunt bobbled
0.15 = a tumbling skill fell
0.05 = both of the athlete’s feet went out of bounds

None of the Cheer Extreme Florida teams did particularly well on Day 1, not surprising. It is one of their harder competitions though.

Cheer Extreme Florida just won Cheersport in the Tiny Level 1 division (6 year olds lol). This will likely be their only win of the day. If Kendal mentions a team from their gym won to try to imply their gym is great, this is what she’s talking about, 6 year olds lol. Evie saw winning banners on the walls of the gym from divisions like this and decided she wanted to go there based on that. The lack of good results could have something to do with her quitting. But there has to be more to it than that since she quit at a strange time in the season.

Yes, and spending so much money that they actually have to sell their house to survive. They are going into debt and for what!?! Just shows how insane these parents actually are. Kendal is obsessed with cheerleading

This cheer expenditure has baffled me for a long time. I’m all on for kids doing sport be it competitive or recreational but never for it to become something that causes financial ruin. Not only is Kendal obsessed with cheer, she’s obsessed with that status she assumes being the parent of cheer leaders. Only the middle class can afford cheer and it gives those families reasons to loudly groan over uniform, practice and travel expenses. A big like the kardashians complaining that their 10th car is only a 2 seater Lamborghini and has no room in the back to transport all their shopping.

I swear this is a cult- why are people so obsessed with cheer when you can get the same experience through recreational cheer for much less cost? It makes no sense.

Recreational cheer is a lot cheaper, but is usually a MUCH worse experience, unless you’re lucky enough to be in a school district with a decent competitive cheer program, but most are not. And Kendal’s clearly opposed to sending her kids to school-related things anyway. High school cheer is more about socializing than learning skills- they mostly cheer on the sidelines at football/basketball games and it’s rarely treated as a sport. If you want to actually compete and learn skills, especially tumbling, you usually have to go to an Allstar gym.

Rec cheer programs often have poor coaching (an unqualified parent of a kid on the team may coach), poor facilities (they may practice on grass outside or without mats), poorly run competitions (they’re often in small school gyms with low quality judging, as opposed to Allstar competitions which are well run and have fairly high production value).

I totally see the appeal of doing Allstar cheer despite the high costs, I did it myself for years. It’s not just about winning (win or lose you don’t get much of a reward), it’s about trying to progress your skills, working as a team, and doing something more serious and athletic than recreational cheer.

Brinley’s not very athletic, but she seems to take cheer seriously and likes going to the bigger competitions. Some of my best memories are from traveling to competitions. So I see why Kendal is pouring money into this even though they don’t win. I’d definitely take my kids to Cheer Florida instead. But good for her for remaining loyal to her gym despite the lack of great results.
