Re: DailyNeglectfulParenting (Part 83)
Is is possible that "scribble" is being interpreted differently by the posters divided on the issue?
To me scribbling is just drawing without trying to make a picture. My 2 year old definitely tries to make designs, but they are obviously interpreted as scribbly

Two years ago Ollie was getting his first build a bear and was close to finns age. Finn didn't even get a build a bear. It would have been sweet to focus on Finn getting his first bear.

The build a bear shopping experience was interesting - they didn't even put shoes on Finn and let him walk around barefoot in there, no wonder this kid is always getting sick! I have a feeling these youtubers get gift cards to BBWS because lately there have been so many vlogs being held at this store. The flashbacks were a little overboard - like we get it, how many times did they have to show they were there 2 years ago - too bad they don't do that with Target, Starbucks or Freebirds - they practically live at those locations!

I totally noticed the lines too!JM16Canada wrote:Also, did anyone else notice the carpet lines were a day early? They must have had the cleaning lady come a day early because of the big filming at their house... or maybe Missy vacuumed... hahaha!

I've been a speech language pathologist for seven years. Specifically working with children. And yes, I have two children of my own. So yes, I do do all that on a daily basis.Theirmom wrote:Something you do everyday? What's that? Hands on time with four year olds, or reading about kids in books?alyssadt wrote:I'm completing my ph.d in speech-language pathology. As I said, if a four year old is still scribbling it doesn't mean something is wrong, but it is something we ALWAYS investigate because it CAN be a sign that there is something else going on. Ever since my undergrad (my two other degrees are from different universities by the way)Theirmom wrote: I just don't know how accurate this is. My experience is completely different to this. Both my mother and sister work in childhood and special needs developmental education, and both say most kids are still scribbling when starting kindergarten, and mastering basic shapes by the end of year.
My own kids have had art supplies at hand since they could grasp, and none of them could do anything but scribble at Ollie's age. My youngest is six months younger than Ollie. She can sight read all the letters, knows her shapes, colours and a few numbers. But she can't draw them. At best, she can draw a "circle". She holds her pencil correctly, says she's drawing a shape or object, but it's just a scribble.
There are many things Ollie should be doing by this age, but legible drawing is not one of them.
I have always been taught that in the 6 stages of drawing, scribbling ON AVERAGE ends at around age 2.5 give or take a few standard deviations.
Not trying to argue you but this is something I do every day. And never once did I say that this makes Ollie dumb or indicate that something is wrong with him, all I said was it is something to investigate.

How much time have you actually spent with real live children of that age? Because you can collect as many letters after your name as you want, but the anecdotal responses of pretty much everyone who has responded (and the many, MANY children I have known in that age group) has been contradictory to what you've been taught.
Most four year olds scribble. It's incredibly rare for kids under five to draw anything legible. Your text books are books, not children. Spend time with as many four year olds as you can before spouting the whole 'I do this everyday' thing. Because I DO spend everyday with preschoolers, not books, and they scribble.
My sister used to be all pretentious about her education too. Tried to give me all this advice because she knew better, because BOOKS. Then she started actually working with kids and has apologized to all the parents she tried to 'help". Because textbooks aren't kids. And she has had to eat crow repeatedly because kids don't give a shit about what her books taught her.
I'm not trying to give any one advice. All I said is that in the literature scribbling isn't considered "typical" for that age group.
Look, at the end of the day if you have a four year old who scribbles and presents with no other language, cognitive, social, or learning abnormalities it's no big deal. All I am saying is that if that child is being evaluated in a clinical setting for any of the reasons I listed above, they will be asked to draw and that drawing will be evaluated and if that drawing is scribbling it will be noted in their chart as abnormal. If all other testing comes back inconclusive no one is going to say "but he scribbled, something must be wrong"
But if all other tests point to something being wrong, then that drawing is going to be used as evidence of that.
That's all I've got to say. I'm not trying to attack anyone personally, but that is my and many others professional opinion.

Yes I don't consider that scribbling. If the child is making an effort to draw a thought out design, but it looks scribbly it's still considered an object.HelloSweetie wrote:Is is possible that "scribble" is being interpreted differently by the posters divided on the issue?

I just had to say anecdotal "evidence" does not hold up empirically. Alyssa's books are based on scientific observations and experiments. Meaning children were involved.

I thought the same thing!!! I remember the vlog where they said he'd need the nebulizer 3 times a day and Brian goes "We have to do this 3 times a day?" My hubby was in the room when Brian said that and my hubby goes "Did you hear how the dad said that? As if it's such a burden?!" I told my hubby I would hate to see them have a child with CF like my cousin had. They would break.FilthyWhisper wrote:As soon as I saw the new vlog, I realised I have to register here bc I couldn't really bear it anymore. About a year ago I was adoring Lannings but then I started realizing something changes, and that was after Finley grew up a little. Yes, he's so much better developing than Ollie was, and yet so much neglected it enrages me.
But about this exact vlog - I have to say they must have really ignored Finn's health, because bronchitis or pneumonia don't just appear out of nowhere. I've been there and I know how it goes. First you're just coughing and if you skip any medications, it starts getting worse. That's what must've happened to Finley. I remember Mithy struggling to give him a nebulizer. In that vlog she said that they will have to use it at least three times a day, but after this torture when she was trying to put a mask on Finn's face, she suddenly figured out it's gonna be ok without any nebulizer. That's nonsence! Couple minutes under that thing won't do anything. Right, neglecting is easier than caring and curing a sick kid.

Re: DailyNeglectfulParenting (Part 83)
Then I guess Ollie wasn't scribbling because as Bryan was walking in you hear missing saying "that's a fish hook" and he responds "yea" and then a few moments later Bryan says can you draw The Moan hook or something and Ollie "scribbles" and says he drawing it.
The kid doesn't lack imagination or imaginative play. We see that quite a bit from him. What he lacks is structure and adults who will put the camera down to have one on one time with him. He also has WAY to much screen time.
My 3 year old has free reign with his iPad. He can use it whenever he wants. Guess what, he hardly ever does. He'd rather play with me, or his toys, or outside. Also he can only sit through like one or two movies and hardly ever watches them. The amount of movies Ollie watches is ridiculous.

Missy looks pretty here! I wonder if she's wearing lashes? I've noticed that there's a certain filter they use some times that makes Missy look pretty. It looks similar to this, but I think this is just dark and grainy. The last time the filter was used was when they met Kandee Johnson I think.francis3125 wrote:

I'm not one to body shame but there is no way Bryan does see how much weight he's gained.

It will be interesting to see what they have to say about the film. As an avid fan of the cartoon and the musical, i didnt like that they changed the words to almost every song. As a singer i didnt like that they autotuned the heck out of emma's voice. As a disney fan i did enjoy the movie though. Maybe missy will actually learn the characters names now.

I show my boyfriend this picture and he said why why why! That hairstylist is awful and horrible for that chubby face!!brownprincess93 wrote:Who in the world told this tubby man that hairstyle looks great on him? I love how Missy thinks she qualifies to wear a "Mom Life" t-shirt.....yeah you actually have to take care of your kids 100% on a daily basis to wear that....but it's cute that you think you can!

They'll have the 60+ mile drive to discuss the because you know there just aren't any theaters near them that are showing the movie (wink wink). She'll probably be on the phone with her one true love, Corbin, since it's his all time favorite movie too!

I'm extremely curious to see what becomes of all the family vlogger kids when they grow up.
The circumstances they are under (a camera in their face every day for their entire childhood) is unlike anything history has ever seen before. Not to mention, they have access to every single day of their childhood and the way their parents play with their emotions for the camera might be embarrassing to them later on as teenagers/adults.

Oh, he definitely doesn't see it. How could he possibly see it when all he does it look at himself in the viewfinder/through a lens, where all he does is get those ~flawless angles~ ? #wokeuplikethith #flawlethwhys0seri0us wrote:

Re: DailyNeglectfulParenting (Part 83)
Honestly, probably nothing. Looking at kids of reality tv stars, nobody ever remembers them after the shows end. YT kids will be the same. I can't see vlogging lasting too far into their lives.alyssadt wrote:I'm extremely curious to see what becomes of all the family vlogger kids when they grow up.
