So in Screech’s mermaid video on FB, she says she has to hurry because Oakland is calling them soon. Why is he calling Tyson and not his mother? I’ve been doing some reading, out of genuine curiousity, and jt sounds like generally these phone calls home are to parents.

I’m still curious why Tyson didn’t serve a mission. Can you be found “unworthy” by your ward? Or can you choose to just not go?

You can absolutely be found "unworthy". Logan Butler, Shay's brother got sent home from the Missionary Training Center because he didn't confess everything (apparently-- that's the rumor, anyway). You have to confess all of your sins before you go on a mission. If you don't confess something, and it comes out, you have to go home.
So, absolutely, Tyson could have been found unworthy.

He didn’t go on a mission because he has major anger issues. He detests authority figures. Hates being told what to do. I believe part of the reason Rattled didn’t push them to return to the series was because he refused to abide by their contract. Back then, whenever he was on a live feed answering questions, he was always giving away “plot” developments. You could hear Ashley in the background telling him to stop, but he would just roll his eyes and utter “whatever.” I don’t believe he got along with his step dad . Probably contributed to family upheaval and divorce. Of course the Mcdonalds incident opened a lot of people’s eyes to the true Tyson. Probably Blender bottle wanted him to work as part of a team, but he was just too arrogant and pompous to fit in. He is a loner with issues. He doesn’t fit in anywhere except in his own little bubble, but he so wants to be one of the cool kids. Never gonna happen.

How the hell do they expect the girls to understand 2 years. There's no way they could comprehend that at their age. They really are stupid. The fake false interpretation of Scarlett crying because of Oakland was sickening. Lying comes so easy to them they don't even pretend any more. As was their crap talk about serving a mission while Tyler couldn't be bothered to. They make me sick, they are so false and fake and sickening. Just saying.
