Books books and more books
Re: Books books and more books
Okay, I'll start.
Favourite book ever: A Town like Alice by Neville Shute. I know, I know...predictably Australian but that book kills me each and every time I read it. The final page can move me to tears within seconds.
Favourite series ever: Harry Potter. I think I've read through all seven books more than 20 times. The start where Harry walks into the Forbidden forest to meet Voldemort and, therefore, his death hits me in the guts like a punch. Does it hurt? Dying? Quicker and easier than falling asleep. Sob.

Re: Books books and more books
I had to go get it, it made me cry writing it down. Enjoy:
"I suppose it is because I have lived a rather restricted life myself that I have found so much enjoyment in remembering what I have learned in these last years about brave people and strange scenes. I have sat here day after day this winter, hardly knowing if I was in London or the gulf country, dreaming of blazing sunshine, of poddy dodging and black stock riders, of Cairns and Green island. Of a girl I met forty years too late and of her life in that small town that I shall not see again and that holds so much of my affection."
Sigh.
You must read this book. It is amazing.

I got a little teary eyed reading that I'm such a sensitive person. I'll admit I was never really a book person but I might start reading to pass the time.
Being a auntie is the best gift in the world and when I become a mother my life would be perfect
Re: Books books and more books
I have only watched the movies. My daughter has the books. They sound beautiful. Goose, every mom on my fb is into pll. Gotta keep up with kids.
I will have to think about my fav. I never read anymore like I used to. I just can't put a book down when I start. I will admit, if it is has Oprah sticker on it I'm in. So much for not judging a book by it's cover.

Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series. It's enjoyable. This is OT, but I so can't wait for the season premiere to air already!

Re: Books books and more books
One of my favorite authors is Dan Simmons. He wrote The Terror, which is a book I recommend to everyone for its chilling sense of place. I am about to start reading his Hyperion series.
I also like Charles Dickens and am slowly reading through his books, one or two a year. So far this year I've read Oliver Twist, and am contemplating Nicholas Nickleby or The Old Curiosity Shop next. My favorite is by far David Copperfield.
I want to be a literature teacher.

The Harry Potter series is by far one of my favorite book series on the planet.
Re: Books books and more books
Okay, so I watched the first episode of PLL. The books are much better.
There's just no suspense in the show. There's no emotion. And I was sorely disappointed with the scene where Aria meets Ezra. They were meant to be having hot, steamy sex in the bathroom of the bar....in the show, all you see is chaste, sweet little kisses, no passion, no heat blerghhh.....then suddenly, they're in luuuurve. Give me a break. I've had more chemistry with my cat.

I'm up to episode 10 of the first season of PLL now. I'm loving it, but I didn't read the books first so I can't make a comparison!
Favourite book series is definitely Harry Potter. I'm reading The Chamber of Secrets again at the moment. One of my favourites.

Re: Books books and more books
Hmmm....Harry Potter favourite book.......I'd have to say The Deathly Hallows. I read in in one day. Sobbed like a baby at the end. Read it again the next day. Walked around with a book hangover for weeks afterwards and just couldn't bring myself to read anything else so finally I gave in and started The Philosophers Stone again.
Harry Potter favourite movie....toss up between Prisoner of Azkaban and The Half Blood Prince. Even with the Deathly Hallows done in two parts, it was still too rushed for me. I wasn't ready for it to end and Voldemort's death was kind of anti-climatic.

I might be the minority, but I love love love the Order of the Phoenix, and then Prisoner of Azkaban.
I always sob like a lunatic after Sirius dies. He's probably my favorite character out of the entire series. Either him, or Snape. So much depth in those two. Ugh.
If I was completely crazy, I would consider naming my child after one of the characters, lol. I tried for like, half a second but completely lost that fight. I always tell SO that our child will be a mudblood. he didn't like that much, haha.
I will most likely continue to fill my leg sleeve with nothing but Harry potter related pieces of art.

Lol, our child is a mud blood. That is fricking hilarious.
My children are lousy stinking squibs. Can't even make a bed.
We are thinking about getting a puppy. I've been going through Harry Potter names for it. I think Ron Weasley would be a great name for a dog. My son disagrees. He wants to call it The Doctor.

It's awful living in a house of muggles, isn't it?
I think Ron Weasley is adorable. I had to settle for naming my car after a character and that was even a stretch.
I can't get into Doctor Who.
My sister in law is 12 and loves it.
Re: Books books and more books
I never cared much for Prisoner of Azkaban, or for Goblet of Fire. My favourites are definitely Chamber of Secrets and then Deathly Hallows.
Never got into Doctor Who. I didn't see the appeal.

A really good book is Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher.
Obviously, the fault in our stars. :-p
and With or Without You by Domenica Ruta
All really good.

Ooooo a book thread. I could talk about books all day!!
I loved Order of the Phoenix. It is definitely my favorite of the Harry Potter series but I think Half Blood Prince is a close favorite. I hated Chamber of Secrets, though. It was just.. blah to me compared to the rest.
I just got done reading the Iron Butterfly series by Chanda Hahn (Books are Iron Butterfly, Steel Wolf and Silver Siren) I just bought it because I read another book by her (the UnEnchanted series) and it was for free on Amazon at the time so I though "Why not?" I was so into the books I couldn't put it down and instantly bought all three.

Re: Books books and more books
There was this really thick book that was about Norwegian immigrants I read when I was in high school. I can normally get through books quickly but this was difficult to get through. There were so many details. I really liked it even though the ending was really sad. I can't remember the title though.
