Any geocachers?

Unread post by blackbetty »

I recently started, wondering if anyone else enjoys the thrill of the hunt!

I've tried a few times. Hubby and friends really like it. I have a negative sense of direction but I do like leaving little prizes. I do it mostly for the hike. Last time I went there was marijuana as our "prize" kids....

but i haven't participated in awhile. its fun though. always a bummer when you find one thats been vandalized though.

But I'm confused. Do you really want anonymous people digging up your sprinkler heads? I have a locked gate on my front yard. Ain't nobody getting in. (I might unlock it if Floss came to town)

I think it's a really great idea. So much fun! But as I said previously on Jeni's thread....I really wouldn't want to get my kids hooked on doing it and then find some bastard with a sick sense of humour had hidden something not suitable for children. Melbourne is a very grungy town. There's a lot of drug use here. It would not surprise me at all if some bastard left a used syringe for kids to dig up.

Meh...I looked it up here because it is exactly the kind of thing that my son would be into but the Australian app isn't free and there were only a couple in Melbourne, the majority are in Sydney and Brisbane. So I'll just live vicariously through you all. It does sound like fun though.

There are rules about where they can be placed and one of them is you have to have the land owner's permission if it isn't on public property so you should be okay!

Nope no digging! I did mine with just the geocaching app and the first one I did was at 1 am. I used my iPhone flashlight for a light lol

I went geocaching last month for the first time it was fun but also told me that I have ZERO sense of direction. But I did it! Had to use the photos as a cheat, but I did it lol. Found out I'm also not allergic to poison ivy walked through tons of bushes of it in flip flops and had no problem. Now when I travel I'm going to look for geocaches near me wherever I go

My husband and I use to do it. I always thought it would be sweet if he proposed this way by hiding a ring at one of the sites on a hunt.
