You don't want to know what teens were doing when I was in grade eight. I learnt too much that year lol
I'm surprised she's encouraging it. Are mormons allowed to date?

I was wondering this too? I feel like i remember some mormoms talking about a courting type process that reminded me of the duggars? And 13 seems kind of young for such a modest conservative religion but then again they are in to marrying girls off right out of high school so I guess it seems natural to start at this age? How sad would it be to see Shari married straight out of high school like Ruby or Ellie and completely give up on an advanced education that she would obviously excel at! I'm hoping for her sake, she doesn't find love in high school and gets the chance to go to college a free woman. Even better would be if she ventures away from her dad's university so she could grow up a bit on her own without her family so deeply involved.
They're actually not encouraged to date until 16. And then in a group setting. Most men go on a mission after high school, and they're not recommended to have or be in a serious relationship when they leave. It's recommended that once you start dating you go on many dates with different guys. Usually that doesn't involve a lot of kissing. More just getting to know each other. Most relationships headed for marriage are quick in the Mormon circle. Once a boy is home from his mission he's encouraged to find a wife. It's not unusual to go from first date to marriage in a year time span.
The thread is approaching 40 pages.
I would ask you to suggest some titles for the next one.
Two weeks is plenty of time to find a husband.
If my parents were married two weeks after meeting each other I would have questioned their judgement/sanity.

And my best friend in high school was Mormon, and there are also pretty strict rules about physical affection, aren't there? Like not holding hands with the hands resting on a lap-- that have to be on the couch between the couple. And if course, no tongue kissing or what we called "double wrapping"-- hugging while slow dancing. Although it might have changed since my high school days, lol.

There's definitely guidelines. But how strict they are varies family to family. The church teaches no making out, no heavy petting. But you totally can sit next to each other on the couch, they wouldn't recommend laying and snuggling on the couch. But really it just varies familybto family.
So this a wild theory.. but has anyone ever considered that maybe Julie isn’t (biologically) Ruby’s kid? Like, I almost feel like Ellie could’ve given birth to Julie or something as a teen- and the Griffith’s being as religious as they are, wanted to cover up the fact that Ellie had sex before marriage and so the oldest sister took the baby in and raised her as her own? That would explain why she’s the outcast of that family and why Ruby always seems so annoyed by her. Plus, Julie looks exactly like Ellie and Calvin. Crazy theory I know, but I’ve been watching the entire Griffith’s family for a while now and this theory came across my mind the other day.

Now that would be a juicy twist in their story!!
I'm still waiting for someone who knew Ellie (or the family) in high school to find this site and spill the beans about what they're really like.

LMFAO. I think this is the craziest (and most hilarious) thing I've read on this site!
