It was with a nurse and was a very comprehensive developmental check. From memory it involved doing jigsaw puzzles, building a tower with blocks, drawing a person with facial features (they had to add a certain number to get it correct), tracing / drawing shapes and letters, answering lots of questions, plus lots more that I can't remember.
I would have thought things would be very similar in the US? Or have the Gardners left that bit out of the vlog? I would have been interested to see how their girls went in a developmental check, mainly for snark reasons because I highly doubt all four girls are meeting milestones.
Same as here its called a “b4 school check”. Its provided by the government, its an independent check made by a impartial service (not family gp). Kids are asked to write their names and to spell it out loud, puzzles, drawing simple pictures. They check the child is enrolled with a doctor, dentist and asked if any other services are helping the family/child (eg: intervention, slt, etc). What kindy/preschool the child attends, what school you intend on sending your child too, do they have siblings - whats the family dynamic, are parents together. Theres a behavioural and strengths/difficulties questionnaires that the parents fill out, as do the kindy/preschool and then the nurse doing the b4 school screening does one as well. That identifies if the child has any issues that need referral. Along with:
Height, Weight, Vision test, Hearing test. The appointment took about an hour and a half.
For us for our eldest we knew he has ear issues (he had back to back ear infection when he was 9mths old), we knew he’d be lucky to pass his hearing screening- he failed and was referred to the ENT specialist- something we has been trying to do with our own doctor for months - but he didn’t meet the criteria to be referred. We also found out that he had a weakness in one eye and was referred to another specialist for that. So very much a well rounded check up.
Its a shame trash and tubby dont value their daughters health and well being enough
