The Griffiths have spent more time together this summer. I think you can only film so much odd family get togethers. Did Kevin stop working out at the gym? That shot of him cliff diving was not the same as the ones taken months ago in the British Virgin Islands or at the gym.imoverit wrote: ↑Wed Aug 05, 2020 5:19 am As much as I hate these people, I still hate-watch every single video. Ruby thinks she's pulling a fast one over everyone by posting videos a month late but it's so glaringly obvious and really stupid.

Ruby: Oh my god, what will I do when Shari moves out!? It never crossed my mind that Eve would need tennis shoes to go hiking. I thought she could just go hiking all day long in flip flops. You're so smart Shari. My kids are going to be so neglected when you go to college and stop raising them for me. Oh, and Eve just has third degree sunburn on her face, don't freak out. I just didn't know how to put sunscreen on her face without getting it in her eyes, so I just left her skin exposed all day to get burned. Oh my god! Is that Shari screaming? I think she's getting mauled by a bear, let me just get my camera really quick because that will be good vlog footage. Ok, I have my camera, now I'll go see if she's still alive. I'm going to go jump off a cliff in all my clothes and shoes now. Bye. Oh, and we're also going to go vlog a bear. If my kids get eaten because I have to get footage of a bear for my vlog, it will be worth it.
Why? Why is this woman a mother?

... she's is constantly having to prove this in writing when her video footage (she chooses to put out) proves otherwise. When will she understand that she needs to stop showing her kids to the world. People outside her utopia don't care she's sure as heck not relatable.Parktown wrote: ↑Thu Aug 06, 2020 3:44 am Ruby posts her continuous bitterness about her supposed tempest but limits any response!!!! Shari posted she is going to be 'high' this afternoon in reference to getting her wisdom teeth out. This and repeatedly talking about what tequila smells like may be normal for a sheltered girl her age trying to sound cool, but when you have an audience of hundreds of thousands you'd think she (or her parents) would have the sense to chill out a little bit. But I think her parents give her free rein really.

They just posted a video about homeschool and it's about asking the kids what they think about it but I'm sure no matter what the kids say they will all be homeschooled and wants the kids to think they have a choice in this but they don't. On the other hand Shari will get to do whatever she wants as she is the favorite child and if she wants to go to public school Ruby won't say no to her. I have a feeling if Chad asks to go to public school not only will he not be alloed I'm sure it will be punished for asking that too. Ruby wants everyone to do home school so she can teach them nothing but Mormon stuff which the public schools don't do.

It seemed to me like they're leaning towards letting both Shari and Chad go to the schools they want. I hope they do.boychik0830 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 08, 2020 5:25 am They just posted a video about homeschool and it's about asking the kids what they think about it but I'm sure no matter what the kids say they will all be homeschooled and wants the kids to think they have a choice in this but they don't. Russel has no business being homeschooled. He needs some RtI intervention that Ruby isn't anywhere near equipped to provide. Ruby making him read the Book of Mormon all day then PhD Kevin coming home and sailing right over his head on the math is the last thing he needs.

Are they talking remote classroom learning or Ruby developing the lesson plans. Ruby was not successful in homeschooling in the past so this could be a disaster. I don’t think she even helped with homework last year and they had a tutor for Russell and Eve.
I’ll be curious how it goes in Utah with the return to teaching in the classroom. Chad’s football game showed most families without masks not standing far apart.

I was going to ask the same question. Ruby is acting totally different since the controversy!! I think they will let Chad go to public school because of the controversy. If they don't let him go after Chad said that's what he wanted to do, it will flare everything back up again! Oh, did you catch how Ruby said Chad wanted to be with his teammate friends and walk the hall together! Ruby also must not remember things before then too well either, because she told a fib today about Eve. Ruby said that she had set in on Eve's classes on zoom today. Back then she said that Eve was only doing part of the class and thought she was through when the teacher gave them a break and one day Ruby walked by Eve's room and the teacher was talking!!
Why wasn't Ruby and Kevin checking on how Russell was doing-Kevin is an instructor? Maybe Ruby should have sat down and helped him with this homework instead of throwing it away because he was behind. Oh, did you catch how Ruby seemed to be blaming the school on the reading and math problems-that he is so well behaved in class he may be falling through the cracks?

Re: 8 Passengers: Emotional Abuse Galore & Making Kids Sleep on The Floor | Part 17
I didn't quite understand the critical remarks about Russell's education/teachers. Ruby has never been the smartest women I've observed. Eve, to me, is like Chad with hyper behavior and has problems staying focus. Eve is looking forward to swimming and horseback riding as her homeschool subjects. Of course she wants to stay home instead of having to pay attention to core subject material taught by teachers. I also feel Ruby sees her children smarter than they actually are... Kevin needs to be more present if they decide to keep kids home from school this year.sheltiefan wrote: ↑Sat Aug 08, 2020 8:05 am Why wasn't Ruby and Kevin checking on how Russell was doing-Kevin is an instructor? Ruby: and what i found was she would do things only if they were fun you know she's super smart when she does pay attention and yet she
only chooses to pay attention maybe 50 of the time so i was really grateful to know that eve really did want to stay home and learn

Honestly, Ruby's kids are so lucky she's giving them options like that. For a myriad of reasons, primarily due to anxiety and depression, having to physically go to school every day made my life hell for YEARS. I'm in college now, but I still suffer some of the effects of being in public school. I wish my parents had been more open about me wanting to do online school, and now I'm envious of all the kids that are given choice–something I never was.

Why on earth would she start a vlog with Russell laughing embarrassingly and exposing his difficulties in math? I don't get it. It's not that he should be ashamed of having trouble in school but he will look back on this and undoubtedly be less than thrilled his parents did this. It's just so unfair to these kids. On another note, I was really surprised Julie said she preferred home school.

Re: 8 Passengers: Emotional Abuse Galore & Making Kids Sleep on The Floor | Part 17
I know it looked like they were being given a choice and to a degree I guess they were, but the kids were saying in a vlog Shari had at the end of the school year that they would be going to a different school. Since Shari is a senior they are leaving her where she was it sounds like, but the other kids would probably be going to public school. The Franke family took a MAJOR hit financially this year. Ruby Do failed, Ruby herself said that ad revenue was down 80% a few months ago and doubt that has changed. Of course the really big hit is the fallout with sponsors over the mess in May with the family-those brand deals pay really good from what I have read.ChelseaB1126 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 08, 2020 9:35 am Honestly, Ruby's kids are so lucky she's giving them options like that. I'm still shaking my head over Russell. Ruby had portrayed before that he was a great reader-Harry Potter, etc. Well I don't see how he can be reading those books yet struggled reading the birthday card! Kevin really needs to be helping with all this if it's the route they are going! He has seemed more involved with the family lately so hopefully that will continue. Ruby's sister in law Emily does seems to be good at homeschooling so hopefully she can give them good tips.
Re: 8 Passengers: Emotional Abuse Galore & Making Kids Sleep on The Floor | Part 17
Reading a book and understanding a book are two different things. Ruby does nothing but say that Russel is such an old soul, but I don't see that reflected in the vlogs she posts online. I have the feeling that she thinks Russell was too smart for his class and therefore performed so badly. A "very big mistake" by the school of course because they should have realized that it was too easy for him.
That Russell behaves so well at school says nothing at all about his learning level. It can be that the child has been brought up properly, but it can also be insecurity from the child. If the child behaves, he is less looked after, so nobody notices that he does not understand. If Russel does not indicate this, you need a teacher who looks beyond the nose. And unfortunately that is missing with many teachers. Which should not be the case in an expensive private school where you pay more than many people in the world in annual income.
Sadly Ruby won't look any further that the image she thinks should be Russel and thus perhaps make it worse instead of improve it.
I am so amazed how easy it is to give a child home schooling in America. Here it is not so easy to give your child home schooling. All the rules they set make the transition quite difficult, maybe it is too easy in America to just give home schooling. Not all parents are designed to teach their child in school subjects. In my head, Ruby is one of those people who shouldn't even get started. She hires someone to help the children with their math and who has also not noticed that things were going wrong with Russell. That person was hired because Ruby couldn't help them but now she's going to teach the kids .
What about Russel and Eve's swimming? Here you go to swimming lessons and with 6 months to a year you swim off for a diploma. How many summers have they had swimming lessons? Maybe time to change swimming teacher.

If Ruby hires a tutor, that will be better for the kids. Kevin could contribute to their education, but I haven't seen him participate.mikaydean wrote: ↑Sat Aug 08, 2020 12:27 pm I am so amazed how easy it is to give a child home schooling in America. It is possible to see really good results with homeschooling, but there is a chance kids don't receive an adequate education. I don't know if it is just the Griffiths or if this is what you see in this region of the country with parents/school district education, but I'm not too impressed. We've watched Bonnie and Joel pull kids out from school for months with no consequences and most of their kids weren't prepared for Kindegarten->that isn't required for students to attend. My opinion, it is possible Ruby doesn't want her kids to the private school beyond the tuition cost reasons could be her mom reputation has been trashed on social media. It isn't a great deal to admit you've had CPS visit your home.
*I have no idea what Ruby is basing her opinion on with her kid's private/public education since her highest educational level is some college. She is not a teacher.
This statement is just scary to me regarding a state and homeschooling.
Utah is very free in how you decide to homeschool your child. They hold no regulations regarding the subjects you teach and how you teach them. You also do not need any special educational degree to teach your child from home. The only thing that Utah requires of you is to file a signed and notarized affidavit.

Do you suppose Bonnie and Joel will homeschool as well? Of course that will require the kids being around them so probably not.
Re: 8 Passengers: Emotional Abuse Galore & Making Kids Sleep on The Floor | Part 17
YTIG60 they alreadydid hire a math tutor last year.
I understand if the private school costs too much (regardless of why) for you to switch the kids schools, that's not really something I see as a negative thing. But unfortunately too many youtubers are now doing home schooling for film convenience and forget that education is part of the future. Look at the yawi vlogs, those children also have to figure it out for themselves and are now all behind. That was not the case when they went to school.
I think this is way above Ruby's head. A pity because it is the children who pay the price.

I do think it is possible Ruby is embarrassed about the negative publicity she's received this past few months making it difficult for her to be part of her kid's schools. She has to be getting some stares at church and out in the public (I don't see many people in Utah staying home due to COVID)
Re: 8 Passengers: Emotional Abuse Galore & Making Kids Sleep on The Floor | Part 17
Oh, I hope not! While you don't need to be super intelligent to homeschool your kids, you need to be smarter than Joel & Bonnie. We already know Olivia has school-related problems (Difficulties with math & spelling amongst other things) and that's with an actual teacher. I can only imagine how much worse they'll get with Bonnie homeschooling her.

Re: 8 Passengers: Emotional Abuse Galore & Making Kids Sleep on The Floor | Part 17
I'm honestly shocked Eve chose homeschool. She is such a social creature and suffered terribly being away from her classmates. I've always thought she was bright but struggles with attention. Eve just sees horses and swimming and is dazzled by that right now.
Russell just wants to please Ruby. If Ruby actually knew what she was doing it's possible he could catch up. I don't think he would throw himself on the floor laughing at school, so I hope that is not a reflection of what is to come with being stuck in the attic with mom.
Julie I was a little bit surprised, but feel she is very self conscious and is tired of her mom putting them in public then private school and now the whole world knows the family drama.
Abby has very much seemed to enjoy having friends in the past, but is siding with Julie bc it's the easy way to go.
Chad, not shocked at all. His parents want him to be a Jock and Ladie's Man. Chad has always seemed to struggle with attention issues since the early days of the vlog. Way too many rules at private school. I have hopes he will find some true friendships this year.
Shari of course chose to return for her senior year. She seemed nervous she would not be allowed due to cost.
While Ruby enjoys reading I am afraid she is not up to par for math and sciences. Ruby seems to suffer from the same attention issues Eve and Chad have. I see her becoming disillusioned by this whole Flowers in the Attic 2020 and giving up by Christmas.
Kevin...who honestly knows. I have never seen him do any type of school learning with those kids.
