Does Korina like Kyra like that? Sometimes I get disconnect vibes.

Not talking to them in Spanish is one of the few things they actually do right.

I grew up bilingual and the language my family speaks is definitely my weaker language. Thats what happens most of the time. It’s the same in O’s case.
I’d still consider myself fluent, but I would never talk to my children in my weaker language.
You are teaching your child their very first language that will be the base of their future conversation and communication skills. You don’t want to mess with that. Trying to teach them a language you are not absolutely comfortable in does more harm than benefit.
I’ve seen bilingualism gone wrong and these children end up having problems in school and social life because they simply cannot explain themselves.

Of course learning simple words or sentence would be fun for the kids (they seem like they would enjoy that). But it’s not necessary at all.
They lived far away from family until recently, so grandparents teaching them wasn’t an option either.

Kyra I don't think would let Oscar teach them a language she doesn't know. She's mentioned this in a q&a once that she would feel left out.

Its all a Kyra control thing, I remember years ago Oscar speaking to his grandma in Spanish and Kyras face was so angry that he started responding in English. I feel like he's probably better at Spanish then we think but we don't get to see it cause oh poor Kyra would be left out

Living in Southern California, speaking Spanish is a definite bonus.
But I can sorta see Kyra's point if she actually had a job or really had anything interfering with her learning Spanish as well. My cousin sent her kids to a Spanish immersion school, and when they wanted to have secrets they spoke Spanish. But she worked outside the home and had cancer, so she actually had reasons for not being quick at learning Spanish herself.

It just makes me think of psychic auras and chakras.

I don't disagree with you that it may be a weird name, but in this day and age, in America at least, most professions are getting used to hiring people with strange names. You can't really have your pick of the draw anymore, just like people with tattoos work everywhere now. I had a boss named Snow once. Her last name was White. You can't make this up. I kinda have a weird name myself, actually pretty hippy and it's never really got in the way. I have a few tattoos too, and while you may hardly have seen them on most women a decade ago, now it's rare not to see them. At least in California! Hah

Someone asked if Laura is common in America. Yes, it is. But it's a bit oldfashioned. Yet some people are still named it. (Reese Witherspoon's real name is Laura.)

I think of Norma Jean, too, as in Marilyn Monroe. Or Britney Jean, for Britney Spears. I don't know why Kyra has an obsession with wanting to be Britney.

Also, isn't Aurora an Italian name? It means "the dawn." Not sure if it means anything in Spanish.
Sorry for another post haha I’m just now catching up!!
I used to work with siblings named thunder, storm, and river. I kid you not.
Also siblings lanajia (luhnayjah) and lanajsha (luhnaysha) basically pronounced the same way.
Parents are fucked sometimes.

Totally know what you mean. I used to know siblings named Ocean, river, lake, and sky. Sky was the girl, the others were boys. Sky was the only name that didn’t give me a headache.

When you guys first mentioned the name I thought it was pronounced Are-uh and I didn't really like it then but I think it was a lot better than Or-uh. She is definitely going to be spending her whole life correcting people who call her Cora or Nora and then have to deal with people teasing her calling her Bora

Since they claim this is their last child, I thought they would've went with a L name to match with Levi, like Lyra or Lara.

I have to completely disagree. They are going to learn english no matter what, cause kyra only speaks english, they live in the usa, watch english media, and go to school in english. Learning multiple languages is best when you are young. Even if your second language is weak, at least its 2 languages. I also grew up in a bilingual household, and i think it was the right decision to learn both languages.

And even if they dont end up speaking it well, at least they can grow up to understand the language. Like in the future they wont be able to understand oscar's grandma when they are older.

I grew up with a "Leora"; always thought it was a pretty name and not too out there. Aura is just...not feeling it as many of you have stated. The Spanish pronunciation makes it a bit more pleasant but I love rolling "r"s.

I remember that.
She got so mad at him talking to his Grandma....who didn’t speak english well at all.
At that point in their relationship, you’d think she would have tried to learn at least a little.

ALittleStitious wrote:So did anyone notice how after teeny man handled the baby, Levi started hitting her with the boppy, repeatedly? And the whole room of adults literally just watched him do it? No one corrected him. I know he didn't hurt averie, but averie was crying /upset and it was clearly because of Levi. It's like that other video where levi hit averie (or was it alaya?) in the face with a toy and no one corrected him. They really favor him and he knows it.

I agree how sad it was when they were all loving on her and meeting her for the first time without alaya there. Their dislike for her is glaringly obvious.

So did they not even tell the kids her real name when they filmed this? Levi was calling her teeny and kyra was correcting him saying "no that's baby roo." They'll confuse the entire family with Kyra's nickname obsession.
Yet when Alaya jumped near newborn Averie when they were on the bed together, they spent the whole video carrying on about how naughty is was.

They make me so angry when they act like she’s so horrible but think it’s fine when Levi does it.
Yes! They're always ragging on alaya for being bad/naughty yet it seems like levi is worse. It's like they literally don't see all the bad things levi does. The only thing alaya has ever done "wrong" was be born at the wrong time, and they clearly resent her for that.
What do you mean she was born at the wrong time?

I have some thoughts. In no particular order:

Aura Jean is pretty.

Aurora Jean is prettier.

When I think of the word aura my automatic word association is migraine. And the aura before a migraine is definitely NOT pretty.

Try saying Aura Morales three times, quickly. For extra fun, add alcohol before attempting this.

She’s going to spend her whole life hearing “And how are you spelling that?”. But her big sister will spend HER whole life hearing “Like the bird cage?” so there’s that.

As somebody else said, it rhymes with oral. This is almost definitely going to be an issue at school when she’s older. But I guess she has Roo to fall back on if necessary during the bitchy school years.

My OCD wishes it had been an L name, so they’d have 2 As and 2 Ls, as bookmarks, if you will.

EDIT: Laura! Aura with an L! (see above). Is Laura common in America?

But most of all, it’s their baby, their choice, and absolutely none of my business 🙂
Are you clinically diagnosed with OCD?

Kyra and Oscar weren’t in a good place in their relationship when she was born. I’m pretty sure they’ve talked about almost breaking up after they had her.

Kyra and Oscar have both said that their relationship was in a very bad place when she was born. So it seems like they associate her with how bad their relationship was at the time, which is where a lot of people (myself included) think the disconnect comes from.

I am sorry, if you chose to spend your life with someone who comes from a different culture and speaks a different language the least you can do is respect that.

My husband is so cute he downloads apps to try and learn Italian and Spanish and when he's around my parents he will practice with them. And my husband is filipino and although I haven't gone to his extent of trying to learn, I would never EVER get mad at him for speaking tagalog to his family. Luckily because they were colonized by the Spanish they actually have very similar words so i understand some of it already. But I LOVE all of our cultures and I try so hard to make sure my son will grow up appreciating all of his backgrounds.

I think it's ridiculous that those kids have a very strong Mexican heritage and Kyra doesn't recognize that. Oscar was literally born in Mexico, it would be a huge shame if kyra was the one that stood between the kids learning about their Mexican culture. It is so rich in history and there are some beautiful traditions.

In their latest vlog, it appears Alaya walks with her one foot turned in, almost like she's pigeon toed.

I haven't watched, but I'm not surprised. She's always walked funny. It almost looked like something was wrong with her hips. And we all know they won't get her any medical care if she does have an issue.
